India's TKIL Industries Pvt. Ltd (previously known as thyssenkrupp Industries India Pvt. Ltd.) and Germany's HOPPECKE Batterie Systeme GmbH have agreed to work closely together in the field of battery systems for the rail market in India. The aim of the partnership is to develop and provide innovative and sustainable energy storage solutions for India's growing rail transportation sector.
Just at the beginning of the year, HOPPECKE was included in the list of 500 world market leaders. This cooperation strengthens its leading position in the field of railroad systems.
It includes the joint development, production and integration of high-performance battery systems for various rail segments - including metros, regional trains and locomotives. TKIL will contribute its expertise in engineering, manufacturing and project management, while HOPPECKE will contribute its decades of experience in the development and production of industrial energy storage solutions.
"India is a strategically important growth market for sustainable mobility solutions," says Dr. Marc Zoellner, CEO HOPPECKE, adding: "This partnership with a well-regarded partner such as TKIL Industries in India is a significant step towards creating real added value on the railways with our battery systems in the country."
“Partnering with HOPPECKE marks a strategic milestone in our journey to support India’s transition to sustainable mobility. HOPPECKE brings deep technological expertise in energy storage solutions, and at TKIL Industries, we bring decades of experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across India and around the world. Together, we aim to play a pivotal role in accelerating the electrification of the Indian mobility market focusing on rail —combining innovation, execution capability, and a shared vision for a greener future,” explains Vivek Bhatia, CEO TKIL.
At the signing of the contract on 9 April in Brilon, Michael Hilmerich, Head of Rail Business at HOPPECKE, emphasized: "Our two companies complement each other perfectly. Together, we can offer our customers tailor-made solutions with innovative storage systems." Talks with interested customers began several months ago.
The partners plan to implement the first joint projects as early as 2025. In the long term, the collaboration is to be further intensified and also include the establishment of local service structures in India.
